The National Conference on Electoral and Political Reform was held successfully on the 12th and 13th of February this year at IIT Chennai. There was a huge participation of about 500 persons belonging to civil society organizations from all over the country. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. Quaraishi, Chief Election Commissioner, India, who also released the National Election Watch’s Report on the Bihar Elections. There was substantial participation of all major political parties including that of Mr. T K S Elangovan (DMK), Mr. Gnana Desikan (INC), Mr. Madhavan Kutti (CPI-M), Dr. Maithreyan (AIADMK) and Mr. D Raja (CPI). ADR also released its webpage on Income Tax Returns of Political Parties on the first day which generated huge interest. There were vibrant discussions on efforts to curb money power in elections and potential political party reform measures during the two days.
