Foreign Donors:
Due to recently declared RBI regulations for foreign payments, we will be unable to process your payment through our regular gateway. Hence, If you are a foreign national, we need:
- A copy of your passport which mentions your Nationality and address
- A self-declaration mentioning your name, address, email id, phone number and purpose of remittance
As per current directives of RBI on the subject, we are required to submit the above documents to our bank, when the money is transferred to our account. In the absence of either of the above documents, the funds will be returned to your bank account and not forwarded to us. Please note that these transactions can only be bank transfers and donations cannot be made through credit / debit cards. Details of our foreign account will be shared with you on receipt of the above documents. Why Donate to ADR?
Target Problems
- Lack of informed voting and predominance of money and muscle power in electoral politics
- Large number of elected representatives with criminal antecedents in Parliament and state legislatures in India: Between 2009 and 2024, there has been an increase of 124% in the number of MPs with declared serious criminal cases. 650% in the number of MPs with declared cases of crimes against women. In the 2024 Lok Sabha Election, the chances of winning for a candidate with declared criminal cases were 15.3% against 4.4% chances of winning for a candidate with a clean background.
- Influence of money in politics: buying votes, policy lobbying, above-limit campaign expenses
- Lack of transparency and accountability in political parties
For over 25 years, ADR has strengthened Indian Democracy by bringing necessary electoral and political reforms such as disclosure of contesting candidate's background details, abrogation of Electoral Bonds Scheme, inclusion of NOTA on EVMs, disqualification of convicted MPs/MLAs, I.T Returns of political parties in public domain, bringing political parties under RTI, etc.
ADR is the first and only NGO to have paved the way for informed voting by empowering Indian voters with information on the contesting candidates and political parties.
Since the last few years, funding is increasingly becoming a challenge and it is getting difficult to sustain our operations and continue our awareness campaigns in the manner we used to. We now need your help in sustaining our vision of reducing money and muscle power in politics and elections, making the political parties transparent and accountable in their functioning and thereby strengthening our great democracy.
Where Will Your Donation Be Used?
- To scale up ADR’s ongoing core activities and to support routine office operations
- To expand ADR’s outreach to economically disadvantaged and marginalized groups in remote areas who can benefit from ADR’s work to exercise their political rights and question those in power
- For our ongoing programs: Recently launched podcast series ‘ADR Speaks’, ‘Mera Vote Mera Desh’ (MVMD) voter awareness campaign and ‘Hum Badlenge Apna Bharat’ (HBAB)
- And for our upcoming projects:
- Organising grassroots level voter awareness campaigns and related programs in states with upcoming Assembly elections
- Organising training workshops, capacity building of volunteers, press conferences, stakeholder collaborations, etc
- Introducing a new section on our website with interactive charts using data visualisation tools with some of ADR’s most crucial data to elucidate past and ongoing trends for a more nuanced understanding of the same
- Translating our reports, work papers, releases, social media posts, and websites into regional languages for the benefit of non-English or non-Hindi speakers; this will mark a shift from our current need-based approach to a more permanent feature of core activities
- Compiling and disseminating new reports by our teams - Election Watch and Political Party Watch
- Introducing new measures for information dissemination including explainer videos, WhatsApp service for voters, etc
- Helping ADR to continue its efforts on improving governance in India: By educating voters about candidates’ background information, political party financing, election expenditure, etc., and empowering them to make informed electoral decisions.
- Expanding grassroots-level campaigning: Which is currently being executed with the assistance of our pan-India network of State Partners, where we target economically disadvantaged/marginalised communities, women, youth groups, etc. through MVMD Campaign and HBAB Program.
- Strengthening ADR's MyNeta website and its corresponding Android mobile application: Leading to a fundamental transformation in how Indian voters choose their elected representatives.
- Assisting ADR in diversifying its data compilation, analysis, and dissemination methods: The ADR teams maintain a one-of-a-kind, open access repository of information on candidates and political parties, which is not done by any other government or non-government organisation in the country; continued efforts are required for its sustenance and expansion.
- Compiling and disseminating new reports by our teams: Election Watch and Political Party Watch
- Strengthening ADR's legal advocacy measures: Our commitment to this sphere has resulted in us filing numerous complaints and PILs with Central Information Commission, Supreme Court/High Court as well as other Central and State agencies, and we plan to continue to do so.
