"Out of 182 MLAs analysed during Gujarat assembly elections in 2012, 57 (31 per cent) MLAs had declared criminal cases against them", the report by ADR said today.

As per the data analysed by Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR), 52 MLAs chosen for the Assembly in the elections (76%) are crorepatis, while only 44 (65%) crorepati MLAs were present in the 12th Vidhan Sabha of the state.

"Out of the 182 MLAs analysed, 47 (26 per cent) MLAs have declared criminal cases against them".

Among party wise MLAs with criminal cases, two out of 21 MLAs from Indian National Congress (INC), 18 of 44 MLAs from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), one MLA from CPI (M) and one out of two Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against them in their affidavits, it said. Every MLA has to give an affidavit about their assets and criminal cases pending on them.

BJP's 85% or 84 MLAs are crorepatis while Congress has 54 (70%) with assets more than Rs one crore.

Average assets: The average assets per MLA contesting in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 is Rs 8.88 Crores. In 2012, the average assets of MLAs analyzed was Rs 7.45 crore, the report said. The cases were related to murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery etc.

In Himachal Pradesh, there are eight MLAs with serious criminal charges, including six from BJP and one from Congress.

While the number of crorepatis has swollen in the new state assembly, the number of MLAs with pending criminal cases has also seen a significant rise.

It's two of the things that survey pointed out that, the increase in assets and the decrease in the number of criminal cases than in 2012. In 2012, the assembly had three women MLA. Party wise, the average assets per MLA for 99 BJP MLAs were Rs 10.64 crore, for 77 INC MLAs Rs 5.85 crore, 2 BTP MLAs Rs 2.71 crores and for 3 independent MLAs the average stood at Rs 53.86 lakh.

The average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2017 is Rs 10.71 crore, while in 2012 it was Rs 7.41 crore, ADR added.

A total of 22 MLAs have declared criminal cases against them in Himachal Pradesh, while there are 52 crorepatis among the elected representatives in 2017 polls, says a report.

It said 96 MLAs have declared their education qualification to be between Class V pass and Class XII pass while 69 are graduates or above.

There are 21 MLAs who are below 40 years while 121 are between 41 and 60. Out of 68 MLAs, four are women.
