It further added that while analysing assets of the newly-elected MLAs, the study found that 141 (77 per cent) of MLAs are crorepatis, while this number was 134 (74 per cent) in 2012. As per the data analysed by Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR), 52 MLAs chosen for the Assembly in the elections (76%) are crorepatis, while only 44 (65%) crorepati MLAs were present in the 12th Vidhan Sabha of the state. Among party wise MLAs with criminal cases, two out of 21 MLAs from Indian National Congress (INC), 18 of 44 MLAs from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), one MLA from CPI (M) and one out of two Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against them in their affidavits, it said. The just-elected Assemblies in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will have more MLAs with serious criminal charges and money power. As per the affidavits of these MLAs, Balvir Singh Verma had shown his assets to be more than 90 crores. With regards to serious criminal cases, 12 (12 per cent) out of 99 MLAs from the BJP, 17 (22 per cent) out of 77 MLAs from the INC, 1 (50 per cent) out of 2 MLAs from BTP, 1 (100 per cent) MLA from NCP and 2 (67 per cent) out of 3 independent MLAs declared serious criminal cases pending against them in their respective affidavits. The wealthiest among them is BJP MLA Saurabh Yashvantbhai Dalal Patel of Botad who has declared assets worth Rs 123.78 crore followed by his party colleague Dhanjibhai Patel, an MLA from Wadhwan, with Rs 113.47 crore. Among partywise crorepati MLAs, 84 MLAs from BJP, 54 from INC, two MLAs from Bhartiya Tribal Party and one MLA from NCP have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore. The average assets per BJP MLA are Rs 10.64 crore while that of Congress MLAs is Rs 5.85 crore. There are 40 MLAs who have declared their age to be between 61 to 80 years. While 81 MLAs were re-elected this time, the average growth in the assets of re-elected MLAs from 2012 to 2017 is 45 per cent, it said. As per the report, 59 out of 68 MLAs have declared liabilities. In 2012, out of 68 MLAs, three were women. The average asset size of re-elected MLAs in 2017 is Rs 10.39 crore, while the average asset of re-elected MLAs in 2012 was Rs 5.79 crore. As per the findings of the report, 21 MLAs have declared their age to be between 25 and 40 years, while 121 between 41 and 60 years. The number of women MLAs declined to 13 this time from 16 in the outgoing Assembly.
