Summary and Highlights

Association for Democratic Reforms and Assam Election Watch have analysed the vote share for all 126 constituencies in the Assam Assembly Elections, 2026. The voter’s turnout for the Assam assembly elections 2026 was 86.25% whereas voter’s turnout in 2021 assembly elections was 82.24%.

The Assam Assembly election result was declared on 4th May 2026.

Vote Share of Winners

  • The winners of the Assam State Assembly elections 2026, won with an average of 58.11% of total votes polled. In the 2021 elections, winners won with an average of 54.08% of total votes polled.
  • 110 (87%) winners won with 50% and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 16 (13%) winners won with less than 50% of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 16 (76%) out of 21 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 94 (90%) out of 105 winners with clean backgrounds have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 96 (90%) out of 107 crorepati winners analysed have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 14 (74%) out of 19 non-crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50% and above.

Representativeness of Winners

  • All the winners of the Assam State Assembly Elections, 2026 won with an average of 50.12% of the total registered voters. This implies that the winners represent on an average, 50.12% of the total electorate. In the Assam State Assembly Elections, 2021 won by an average of 44.47% of the total registered votes.

Margin of Victory

  • 2 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 3000 votes.
  • 4 winners have won with more than 50% margin of victory.

Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory

  • 14 out of 21 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.
  • Among these 14 winners, 7 winners have won with more than 25% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Zubair Anam Mazumder (INC) from Algapur-Katlicherra constituency won with 46.44% margin of victory.

Winners with clean background and their Margin of Victory

  • 23 out of 105 winners with clean backgrounds have won against a runner up with declared criminal cases.
  • Among these 23 winners, 14 winners have won with more than 25% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Kaushik Rai (BJP) from Lakhipur constituency won with 64.65% margin of victory.

Crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory

  • 38 out of 107 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 38 winners, 9 winners have won with more than 40% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Tuliram Ronghang (BJP) from Rongkhang constituency won with 54.80% margin of victory.

Non-crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory

  • 10 out of 19 non-crorepati winners have won against crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 10 winners, 1 winner has won with more than 40% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Munindra Das (Bapti) (BJP) from Behali constituency won with 45.84% margin of victory.

Performance of Women Winners

  • Among the 126 winners, 7 are women.
  • All of them won with 46% and above of vote share in their constituencies.
  • Among the women winners, Niso Terangpi (BJP) from Diphu constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 62.95% in her constituency. She has won with 49.62% representativeness and 34.46% margin of victory.

Performance of Re-elected Winners

  • Out of total 63 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 40% of vote share in their respective constituencies. 54 (86%) have won with more than 50% of vote share.
  • 2 (3%) re-elected winners have won with less than 10% margin of victory whereas 2 have won with more than 50% margin of victory.

NOTA

  • The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 2,16,64,898 votes polled in 2026 Assam Assembly Elections, 2,66,962 (1.23%) were polled for NOTA.

Voter Turnout

The voter’s turnout for the Assam Assembly elections 2026 was 86.25% whereas voter’s turnout in 2021 assembly elections was 82.24%.
